Simone Biles

Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lzSimone Arianne Biles (born March 14, 1997, [4]) is an American artistic gymnast. Biles tied Shannon Miller for the number of Olympic medals won in American gymnastics and is currently ranked ninth in the world for the most medals. With 25 World Championship medals won, she is the most decorated gymnast from the history of the Gymnastics World Championships. Many consider her to be the most successful gymnast of all-time. [5] In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. Biles won individual gold medals in Rio's 2016 Summer Olympics. Bronze on the balance beam, vault, and all-around were her awards. Biles also won bronze as part of the United States Team, which was known as"the "Final Five". Biles was unable to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics due to "the twisties" which is an air balance disorder that temporarily impairs her ability to control her balance. Biles was awarded silver as part of the US team, as well as the bronze medal on the balance beam. Her partial withdrawal, focus on mental health, safety, and perseverance were praised. She also is an all-around champion five times over, World all-around champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) as well as a five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 2018, 2018-2019) and three-time World champion on balance beam (2014-2015 2019, 2019) Two-time World vault champion (2018-2019), a seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016 and 2018-2019 until 2021) and a member of the gold-medal winning American teams at the 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She has also been a three-time World silver medalist (2013 and 2014 on vault, 2018 on uneven bars, 2018 on vault) and three-time World bronze medalist (2015 on vault, 2013 and in 2018 on balance beam). Biles is the gymnast who has the highest number of World medals (25) and most World gold medals (19) and has surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's record-breaking 23 World medals by winning her 25th and 24th medals, both gold medals, at the competition of 2019 in Stuttgart. 8 She is also the only female gymnast who has the highest number of World all-around titles (5). She's the sixth woman to be awarded an individual all-around championship at the Olympics and World Championships. She is the tenth and first American female gymnast to earn a World medal in every event. This feat was achieved at the 2018 World Championships. Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of four siblings.Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was incapable of caring for Simone or her other children , Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four children were between foster and adoption care. In 2000, Biles' maternal grandfather, Ron Biles, and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles began temporarily caring for Shanon's kids in the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after discovering that his grandchildren had been placed in foster care. The couple took in Simone and Adria, her younger sister in 2003. Shanon's aunt, Ron's sister Harriet adopted the two oldest children.
