Sharon Yvonne Stone was born on March 10 the year 1958 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to the accountant Dorothy Lawson and tool and die manufacturer as well as former worker in the factory Joseph William Stone II. Michael, Kelly and Patrick are her siblings. Stone started second grade at 5 years old. She was considered to be academically gifted. She was a graduate of Saegertown High School, located in Saegertown, Pennsylvania, in 1975. Additionally, she participated at Miss Pennsylvania. Miss Pennsylvania pageant and won Miss Crawford County. Stone relocated into New Jersey in 1977 with her aunt, to pursue a career as models. Within a month, Stone signed up for the Ford Modeling Agency. She soon relocated to Europe and spent a full year in Milan in Italy and Paris. Stone was unhappy with the model business in Europe but decided to concentrate on acting. At the age of 20, she appeared in Woody Allen's "Stardust Memories" which received mixed reviews.
